Porcelain veneers for stunning smiles in Brampton, ON

What are Porcelain Veneers

If you are troubled by cosmetic imperfections in your teeth, Dr. Azeem Sheikh can help. He uses porcelain veneers to bring lovely uniformity and balance to the smiles of his patients in the Brampton, ON area.

What’s a veneer?

A veneer is a thin restoration made of a strong dental ceramic. The veneer is precisely shaped to fit over the front surface of a tooth. The porcelain material mimics the luster and light-reflecting qualities of natural enamel.

The dental veneers process starts with a consultation with Dr. Sheikh. He examines your mouth and takes plenty of time to understand your concerns. You learn about all available treatment options and look at veneers before and after photos. If you decide veneers are right for your smile, the process can generally be completed in just two visits.

At the first visit, Dr. Sheikh prepares teeth by removing a small amount of surface enamel, and possibly shaping teeth a bit. This allows a snug fit that looks natural and does not create a ledge at the gum line. Measurements and impressions are taken, and you choose the shade of your veneers. This information goes to a dental lab, where each veneer is meticulously crafted. Depending on the amount of preparation and how sensitive your teeth are, the doctor may apply composite temporary restorations.

When your new veneers come from the lab, you return to have temporaries (if any) removed and new veneers cemented in place. Usually no numbing is needed for this visit.

What are porcelain veneers?

Hi, this is Dr. Sheikh from Brampton Dental Arts. You may see many celebrities that have beautiful, white, shiny teeth. In most of those cases, these are porcelain veneers.

A porcelain veneer is a thin laminate almost like a fingernail. It’s made of porcelain. We can design and choose any color, shape, and size according to the patient’s needs.

How are porcelain veneers placed?

They are developed and made in a lab. We do a light preparation on the teeth at which point in time we take some molds.

Two weeks later, we get the final veneers, which are then glued on. With recent technologies, these can be made very thin.

Who is an ideal candidate for porcelain veneers?

Any patient that is not happy with the size, shape, overall smile, or colour of their teeth is an ideal candidate.

If they notice chipping or staining of their existing teeth and they want to have a permanent fix, then porcelain veneers are the number one option.

A single tooth may be treated, but most often all front teeth that show when you smile are veneered. Veneers could be all you need to achieve desired smile enhancement, or the technique can be part of a comprehensive cosmetic dentistry strategy.
